If you want to catch ‘em all, then you don’t want to miss the latest Pokémon TCG expansion!
Launching in Seventh Dimension, Belfast on 25th February, the highly-anticipated Pokémon trading card game collection Brilliant Stars is expected to attract collectors from all over the country.
Why? As many avid fans will understand, even the most common cards in the Sword & Shield Brilliant Stars will feel like a rarity to own! Let’s take a closer look at the expansion, as well as a handful of specially selected cards to watch out for.
About the Pokémon Brilliant Stars Expansion
The Pokémon Company ended 2021 strong with the long-awaited release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. While we’re only two months into 2022, it's already been a thrilling year for collectors, with the launch of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and now Brilliant Stars.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were announced as part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event, alongside Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While this does give the games an exclusive edge, Brilliant Stars is unique in that the Pokémon Sword & Shield TCG set will add over 170 new cards to the game, featuring four brand-new VSTAR cards and 30 cards with special artwork. Brilliant Stars will also house 20 V cards and three VMAX cards with over 20 Trainer cards and a new Special Energy Card.
With glimmering constellations and endless possibilities - Pokémon Brilliant Stars is destined for stellar greatness, injecting a fresh layer of strategy into decision making.
One thing to note about this new expansion is the fantastic artwork. Not only is this tempting for collectors, but it will also increase in value over the years - making the cards something truly special to own personally.
Let’s delve deeper into the cards you can expect to see in the Brilliant Stars collection…
The New Pokémon VSTAR Mechanic
Pokémon VSTAR is a new game mechanic that’s sparked excitement among players.
This is because Pokémon VSTAR evolve from Pokémon V, creating a whole new dimension to gameplay. Each Pokémon VSTAR comes with a dynamic VSTAR Power, which can come in the form of either an ‘ability’ or an ‘attack’. Each player can use only one VSTAR Power per game - making it a very special tactic to incorporate into strategies and drastically alter the course of battles.
Pokémon VSTAR has high hit points (HP) and high-damage attacks. Similar to Pokémon V, you're also rewarded with two Prize Cards when they're Knocked Out.
Below is two Pokémon VSTAR cards you can expect to find in the Brilliant Stars expansion.
Pokémon Arceus VSTAR
One of the most potent new cards is the mythical Pokémon Arceus VSTAR.
With the Starbirth VSTAR Power, this ability allows you to search your deck for up to two cards to bring forward. This gives you an instant upper hand in gameplay, as you can choose the cards you need in order to customise your tackle in battle.
Another attack that the Arceus VSTAR boasts is the Trinity Nova attack, offering 200 damage and enabling you to search your deck for up to three Basic Energy Cards and attach them to your Pokémon V however you see fit.
Pokémon Charizard VSTAR
Charizard VSTAR has the Star Blaze VSTAR Power, an attack that packs a punch with 320 damage. While you do have to discard two Energy from Charizard VSTAR when you use the attack, it is still guaranteed to prove useful against even the strongest opponent.
It also comes with another attack defence named the Explosive Fire. This does 230 damage, even if there are any damage counters on it already.
By bringing Charizard VSTAR into play, there’s no doubt you will make your opponent nervous for the fate of the game!
Trainer Cards
The trainer cards are something to truly admire in this expansion. There is 30 in total, all of which include various intricate artworks of different trainers and Pokémon. Here’s a snapshot of them for you to appreciate:
